Chase's Journey

Happy 10 Weeks!

Wow, 10 weeks... yeah he's still small, but so big for his growth! I was laying a foot or so next to him yesterday- and watched how like a little inchworm he managed to scoot all the way next to me until he could touch me. This while laying on his back- made me smile- he's been doing that a lot lately. Last night was much better than the previous- having at least one long stretch of sleep in between so I didn't lose my mind entirely. Although- a couple of those darn diapers were left- so I change him last night (around 4am), and literally seconds later after I finish dressing him, I go to pick him up and he's drenched- as is my bed- seriously?? Apparently he peed (and otherwise) right after I put the diaper on, and it immediately leaked. I am soooo sick of doing laundry! Bad enough with the spit up and all, but geez!

Anyhow, this past week we've gotten outside almost everyday to walk Kaely to and from school- usually using the baby carrier in the morning, and stroller in the afternoon. About 4 miles a day for us- it's a lot to get used to after months of bedrest & restrictions, but feeling better!

and Chase is our alarm clock- without fail, regardless of the last time he had eaten, will be awake at 7 am (nearly) on the dot. Kind of freaky- wonder what will happen after the time change? Hope everyone has a great one!

Moving Backwards

I just don't get it!!! We were doing so good having longer stretches of sleep and contentedness... but the past 24 hours or so have been rough. Last night he was up at least 6 times- with me giving up on sleep around 6- not just being awake, but throwing a fit awake... I tried everything from diaper changes to gas drops, and only thing that worked was food. Then he'd fall asleep for a little, only to do it all over again. Now, after eating an hour later again, he's wide awake and staring at his monkey mobile... sigh... I feel like a cranky zombie! I thought we would be at least maintaining the 3-4 hour stretches- oh well...

at least he's cute

Leaky Diaper Frustrations!

Alrighty then, having a boy makes diaper changes a challenge before you even begin considering brand options- however- I never imagined having more outfit changes on Chase than Kaely goes through in a day. I've been grumbling about this for the past week or so- considering I have about 70 of the diapers- but having poop leaked on you- after having just changed the diaper 1/2 an hour prior- is ridiculous! Then even today there was pee leaked on along his side, from his armpit to hip- how does that even happen? Yes, I make sure he's in the "off" position, and pull out the leak barrier, snugly around his legs, and all of that- but geez! I resorted to sharing my frustrations with the brand who made them, and they simply said sorry for the inconvenience, but you must have the wrong size. Ummmm- we are definitely out of preemie sizes, and absolutely don't fit in the "size 1" yet- sooooo- what else can a person do?

Oh well, at least Chase is stylin' and I get more activity with the laundry that keeps piling up :) Add my tops in that have been peed on too, and we're having a blast! Guess I know better now, and am about done testing out different brands- every baby is different, and I guess moral of the story is- stick with what works! The extra laundry is not worth saving a few cents :)

He's doing great though- even if he is feeding every 2 hours again (another growth spurt???). He seems to love our walks which have ramped up to about 4 miles a day now (1 mile each way to school), so the fresh air is good for both of us! He's been sleeping a lot today- not a whole lot of "play" time, but I'm sure he'll make up for it later tonight... good times with my little peanut :)

Spa-tacular Effects :)

(excuse the quality of the video- taken from the phone- more the principle, lol)

Oh the way a screaming baby just raises your blood pressure and makes you want to sit down and cry with them... Today was one of those afternoons, and after the past couple days of leaking diapers (a whole other issue that irks me!), we went through several outfits, and ended up needing a bath anyway :) It is still kind of crazy the effect that the warm water has on him as an instant calming potion... once again reminds me that I still need a bubble bath!

Just another day in paradise!

Look Who's Talking

Ever think about what goes on in the mind of a baby? We sure do... it amazes me how many expressions cross over their face in a matter of a few seconds/minutes. Especially with all of the crazy, silly, nonsense us adults do and say to entertain these little people, and how close up we get- I mean, I am a good 15 times his size- can you imagine someone that much bigger than you trying to talk to you? LOL. Not to mention the mobiles we hang over their beds- his are monkeys of course, and the subject of "what happens if he's terrified of monkeys?" came up... here they are flying over his head (Wizard of Oz anyone?)... That, and their effort to scream bloody murder, only too stop as soon as you pick them up- just their way of saying- hey! Look at me! I'm here! Don't leave me alone!!!! Ever since my sister mentioned his eyes remind us of Stewie from Family Guy- this clip was thought of, lol:

Anyhow!!! Just another peek into our morning... the good part anyway! :)

Case of the Sundays...

Okay the original quote is "...a case of the Mondays..." but for me, it's Sunday. I mean, isn't it always Sunday you crave Chick-fil-a??? lol- just teasing- I know the reason behind that. But it is always Sunday that I have to say goodbye to my husband again for the work-week, and one of us has to get on the road and travel  to return "home" -wherever that is. I know there are worse situations- but it is definitely far from ideal...

This weekend it was me & the kids- which was daunting- if not a bit adventurous. However, all in all, it wasn't too bad of travel- Kaely proved to be big help when Chase would need some soothing. We arrived Thursday evening, and Kaely immediately was intrigued by watching the drawbridge from the balcony- to her it was a great vacation :) Friday we explored by biking/walking after the car fiasco- but it was nice to be able to get fresh air & exercise that way. Dinner was pretty darn good if I may say so...

Saturday was the Lorax day- we went to IHOP for the Lorax breakfast- this is where I began to realize Kaely is now eating almost the same portions as me every meal- as long as she has input on the menu. Crazy! Her & Dave went to the movie, while Chase & I hung out- since he's a tad unpredictable. Made it to the pool for a bit before dinner, and just had a nice day overall enjoying having all 4 of us in one place for once. That hasn't happened since before Chase was born- so I guess it really has been a first.

Today was the best, with walking to the beach before the cold front came in... we attempted to set up the beach tent- which lasted all of 5 minutes before the wind took over and we gave up. I just kept Chase covered with a blanket creating a "mommy" tent. It was a beautiful morning! Lots of little moments that add up to big memories... as Kaely put it, "the best weekend EVER!" (you'd have to hear her voice)

Glad to be off the road and ready to pass out for the night snuggled up with a clean baby... but I definitely am missing my other half tonight... great days to come though!

Adapt or Fail!

This seems to be the rule of thumb in all challenges we face, but man some days are hard! Something as simple as going to the grocery store or walking the trash down the hallway are somewhat of an obstacle. Yesterday the truck was tied up with the front at the apartment, so out of sheer principle we walked to the grocery store for things for dinner. Today we somehow survived brunch, but I had to sit out the movie, not to mention breastfeeding in the parking lot. Try to go to the pool with Dave and Kae? Nope, as soon as we walk out into the hall, I have to turn left back around again. Irony? Quiet once I walk back inside so I aim for tummy time, and he passes out! I can't win. Lol. So I guess I will adapt and adjust and go with the flow - the alternative being losing my mind :)

So I just sit out and watch him snooze instead... not the worst thing to do ;)
